It has been declared! The previously titled, "Minor League" will now be formally known as the Challenger League! A logo that resembles the Alvo World League (AWL) but distinguish itself from the World League is being made and in the approval process. The discord is all set up with the set of rules approved and available to all competitors. We at Amateur Hour Commentary are very excited to grant new competitors an opportunity to join in the mix with what will be an exciting endeavor for anyone trying to enter the competitive scene. Though the future of such a competition is never clear, this will be an educational and rewarding experience in trying to bring new faces to the league.
The Purpose: We seek to ease new or less seasoned players into the competitive scene with peers of equal or similar skill. Players from rank 1-to-108 are welcome; why? For those who compete in any Esport knows that the competitive scene is a true mark of skill and excellence that exceeds way beyond casual gameplay. Most competitors from season 1 and beyond find little challenge in public lobbies, and this is not to speak down or ill of public lobbies. Rather, it is intended to acknowledge the skill discrepancy that is created when strategizing, preparing, and purposely enduring hours of gameplay are factored into one's gameplay; this discrepancy is not contingent on rank. Instead, a new mindset i.e., way of looking at and playing the game is created when put into a competitive space, where rewards and pride are on the table. This is what make a competitive player different than a casual.
The Future: It is obvious that when players exceed the skill cap for the Challenger League that interest will grow in competing in the World League. Also, the player pool is likely not sustainable for a Challenger League to exist. What does this mean for its future? Some ideas have crossed our minds, but the most probable will be that of an off-season tournament style event, or it will shape itself into a preliminary event that will be used to determine who can participate in the World League itself. That being said, it is still unclear what direction it will take us, but those who pave the way for the future will forever be remembered as the pioneers of the Challenger League.
