A Merry Christmas – Titch

Hey everyone. Been a while since a post was made on the Blog. So, what’s new with you guys? I guess to start off I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy new years! 2022 is the year things return to normal amirite? (Kappa KEKW). Feels like the world will never return to normal with global shortages on just about everything.

So, what’s new with me? Well, if you didn’t hear I am heading up the Rocket League casting with Paco. (I hear he’s coming back in the new year! Who’s excited for that??!!) We have partnered up with a team called Brio Esports that has a number of teams in the IndyGamingLeague (IGL). One of the players you might remember (Scuba Steve). He was my teammate the other season when I played IGL. The team he’s on won their 3’s playoffs last season so here’s hoping they can continue their streak. Maybe with a bit of luck Steve will get a webcam and join on screen one of these days. (LOOKING AT YOU STEVE!.. Steve how are you now?.. good and you.. ooooooooh not so bad).

With a more focused push into the RL scene I have wanted to get an overlay that would show all players boosts on screen. Sadly, no such overly is really out there. They exist but doesn’t seem like they are just a “download” away. There is a plugin on the PC version (PC MASTER RACE!) that can pull game data in real time. It’s quite interesting the information that it gets. Player names, team names and colours, location and speed of the ball, just tons of information. So, me being me I was like “Hell I learned Blender and there’s a tutorial video on how to code the html page to display the score. So, I just replace the variables from score to boost then duplicate the code for each player, right?”. So, I get the WebSocket connected I can see the data come in, a goal gets scored and BAM! My page didn’t update the goal. So, I did what any person who can’t figure out what he did wrong, and I called my brother who is a God developer in my eyes. He looks at it takes him 2 minutes to find a single dash in the 150ish lines of code I had.

He’s curious what is it I’m making. Not like me to delve into the world of coding so this piqued his interest. Explain to him how its all supposed to work, and my overall plan and I get a “Yep now you have the score working you just change what data is being pulled. Let me connect for a minute”. He connects to my computer and just types out like 200 lines of code. I was going for 3 bars for each side and then I’ll just crop the source to the number of bars needed. He went beyond what I thought of. He logic the crap out of it so bars only show up if there’s players and the number of bars is the number of players. Its just awesome. So, we ended that night he asked for a copy to play around with. Next morning, I have an email from him with an updated version. This one shows when players demo someone, if they are supersonic, if they score the goal, get the assist. This thing is so freaking cool Wolfe, Paco and myself are so stoked to have this thing. We can’t thank my brother enough for the work he put into it for me.

With the new boost overlay means I need to update the RL score/team overlay. Going to be working on that next week as the new season starts soon. Tomorrow is cut off for registration. I say this all the time if you guys have not tried rocket league and actually given it a go, I highly suggest it. I have converted a number of firewall players to actually try it and they have got into it. I’m always down to play with people and it would be cool see familiar names from Firewall going into the IGL in their ranks. Looking forward to casting with Paco again in the new year. Looking forward to seeing everyone watch the games with us. Looking forward to playing with you guys if you do try out the game.
