Woe Is Me – Captain Titch1987

Captains Log Stardate 100203.72. It has been 4 months since the last log. I have been working more lately to help expand our knowledge of production and what we do. I have joined up with IVRL to cast the Vail launch Season which has given me new creative ideas for production. Imagine a setup so easy, so simple anyone could do it in just a couple presses of a button. *Mind blown*. What does it take to harness this kind of power? Is it possible? It must be, for others have completed this task. Those people have skills far beyond my own. Those people have gone into the depths of the code to create connections and programming I cannot. Surely there is something a simple Captain as me can use to recreate this effect. STREAM DECK! That is the key. My fellow Captain Wolfe has a stream deck and with plug ins I can create such magic.

Captains Log Stardate 100204.06. I have made progress on a much faster quicker setup and control for our production. With some button presses I have been able to set the team names for both sides, able to adjust scores for both teams, even change the text for who is currently in the lead on the POV screens. All that remains is team logos. I have a quick solution but not what I want. Perhaps some help from someone with the ability to see into the net code could help with this one task.

Captains Log Stardate 100204.29. I fear the worst has happened. Fellow Captain Wolfe raised a problem that I had not come across with my setup. Having 2 computers, my personal stream on one and AHC streams on the other have always been isolated from each other. Captain Wolfe showed how with the buttons programmed to switch scenes change when logging into another Streamlabs account. He has been having to remap the buttons on his personal channel for some time unbeknownst to me. Testing of this issue was required to see if there was an easier fix than having to remap all the buttons every time we switch accounts. While testing I switched to the AHC RL channel to see how the buttons would respond. To my surprise the buttons had changed and were no longer pointed at the scenes I had originally set to. Upon further investigation I found one of those buttons still showed the main AHC collection and scene I had originally set. I pushed the button. What happened caused a rush of panic. The button loaded all the scene collections from the main account and removed the AHC RL set. This is a dangerous bug. Knowing at any moment Captain Wolfes set could be loaded in and override our sets using this setup is a deep fear. I have not found any solutions to this problem as of yet. Are we the first to find it? Surely not? We can’t be the only ones controlling multiple streams through multiple accounts and trying to get this one piece of equipment to control them all. Or maybe we are this weird little niche. Either way I have much work ahead of me to fix this. Perhaps switching from Streamlabs to regular OBS is the answer. Profiles are handled differently and this might not be an issue. More testing required.

This brings its own problems. Streamlabs cloud save means any changes I make to the scenes are saved and when anyone else opens Streamlabs for that account the changes are shown on their side. This has allowed one person to go in set a stream up for that evening and someone else log in and be ready to go. OBS does not have this option. I would have to create and send out new folders to anyone on production and they would have to update the OBS scenes on their own computers whenever set changes are made.

But surely the small risk of people having slightly different versions of the sets and it being on them to stay up to date is outweighed by the power of what this new push button setup does? This change in setup would mean the greatest increase of productivity we have ever had. Anyone with a Stream Deck would be able to setup and control a stream with little to no knowledge of how to use OBS. All I know is I have a lot of work ahead of me to rebuild the AHC RL set. A whole lot of testing to be done with OBS. I pray for a speedy and smooth path forward. Pray for me.

More Changes? - Titch1987

Hey everyone. As usual it’s been a while since we have done a blog post. Not because we forget about it, Wolfe and I often say to each...
